Mandatory Reading, for all you DO IT TO YOURSELFERS: I recommend, the Chrysler Engines Manual. Performance Parts. PN.  P5249704, thats the pn for the 9th. Edition, but I'm sure it's been up-dated.This will give you more info than you care to know.Yes there are more engines in it, than you need, but No ONE has better info, the best  $25- 30 EVER SPENT for your engine.Thanks, Dave, (I'm back to the library).

The best way to find TDC is to pull the head and use a dial indicator.

There are also tools which you can insert into the #1 cylinder spark plug hole. One whistles as the air is expelled as the piston moves to TDC. When the whistling stops you are at TDC. Another has an adjustable rod which you screw in and out to contact the piston at TDC. These will both get you close and I am sure that skill is needed to get very close.

The very best thing that you can do is have a thorough tune up done on a dynomometer with an oxygen sensor in the exhaust so that the timing and carb can be adjusted.

The settings are not important. It is how the engine runs that counts.

Thanks for your very interesting post!
Especially the last part of your message make me read it twice :)

You see, I don't believe me eyes too when it comes to set the ignition
timing. When I bought the car last year I found the initial timing set at
16 degrees BTDC...
When I adjusted it back to factory specs (10 degrees) it runs NOT Ok.
I experienced a severe power loss so I set it back to the former 16
degrees setting.

So far so good, but how can I determine the real initial timing that is
set this way??

I still haven't found the source for an unstable idle, it is like someone
is playing with the accelerator pedal all the time (you know, like someone
that is impatiently waiting for a traffic light). Can this also have to do
something with the fact that the pulley has slipped at the harmonic
balancer?

I think a good start will to find the correct timing mark on the pulley
and to erase the old one.
What is the best way then to find the EXACT TDC of cilinder 1 ??
Is there a tool that I can use for this job?
