Re: IML: map light, interior lighting

The map light switch is often damaged, but can be repaired. In '63 it should be mounted in the map light bezel on one side, with the antenna switch on the other side, if the car is equipped with Auto Pilot. If not, then the antenna switch resides where the Auto pilot would be, and the map light bezel only contains a switch for the map light. If the map light lead is loose up in there, it can spark if it touches ground. There should be a switch near the coat hook on the drivers side in the roof. It is used to turn on the dome light when the rear doors are closed.

True there is a map light in the dash which does not seem to work.  But as I just bought this car and am slogging through the problems which include two empty fuse slots, there are bound to be shocking revelations.  Pun intended.  If your answer is that the front doors are not supposed to turn on the overhead light, i can accept that and leave it alone.  I shall focus attention on making the map light work.  Thank you.  --Tom in AZ
