If you elect to go for a rebuild be careful. While a regular 904 will bolt up to your car, you want the low first gearset model. I believe that is what specified 998 or 999. I don't think the 80's Imps had 904s, but they are basically the same thing. IF you end up with a regular LA904 and your current 2.24 rear gear your car will be extremely sluggish.

Matt, If you plan, or have to replace the trans. compete try and find the A-998, orA-999. These transmissions are a heaver duty version of your A904LA. They don't have the Lock-Up converter,but I think its a better choice, and should be less costly than the A904LA Lock- Up Ya'll have a nice day, Dave.
