The sealer you most probably used, was a silicone type. Unfortunately, these sealers don't seal well, if there is ANY oil residue left on the sealing surfaces.A new gasket would certainly be a better choice.Hopefully, there was no gear, or bearing damage otherwise, all your efforts were for naught.
