You could replace the plastic check valves with generic metal ones. I have
used a couple of tank check valves used on ATV's: very simple, small,
durable and cheap.
If the AutoTempI check valves are similar to the AutoTempII valves, you just
have to used 2 T's to hook it up.

I'm still getting to know AutoTemp I. Mine works, but
makes a rude noise. I'm told that this is caused by
leaky check valves. I hope to get replacements someday
and test that theory!
