Re: IML: Imperials & AirStreams @ Tiger Run

Hola Javier and s Who Have an RV Life

As you drive out of Miami, Fla. , sooner of later you will need to cross more than rolling hiles of Cental Fla.  You can not spent your mid-life dream following 18 wheelers from the truck stops since they take off at a slower rate.  Sure you may now have a clean running dual exhaust, but that little extra, made possible of the 3.23:1 used in the 8 3/4 rear axle ( or the 3.21:1 for the 9 1/4 unit ) is no match for the Mountains of Tenn or the other parts of the USA.

The gear ratios are all over ebay and even NAPA.  If you change just this, the speed indicator will be off from the 2.9 to the 3.2 ratio.  For some more $$$ the plastic speed-o gear cable drive on the side of the transmission can correct the 10% readings.

And will they "let ya in" since you now have a like new AS.  Please read the link with the whos attending section.  This is also an event that you need to do sumthin about now.

If I can make it to the area by the 27th, I will join the festivities!  Will they let me in?  My Airstream is not ?vintage?

BTW: The imperial and my new airstream are at the hitch shop getting fitted and I?m planning my first test run to Disney World next weekend.  YIPPEE!

Roger/Scott and everyone else who gave sage advice: THANKS!

For the 1967 and newer Imperials, Imperial Division did not need much to make it an "tow package" they just added an transmission cooler, the 3.23 ( 8 3/4 ) or 3.21:1 ( 9 1/4 ) axle ratio, the trailer plug/ trailer brake assembly and the local made frame mounted hitch ( per MoPar's spec's at ABC's Welding Shop).  Prior to this the owner had to have the local metal shop "fabercate" the frame to hitch assembly from scratch.

My imperial is a 1968 convertible, but I don?t know what axle ration I have?  Before heading out on my 12-36 month mid-life-crisis tour of America, should I change the axle ratio to the 3.21:1?  I?d hate to mess with original equipment if I don?t have to.

Cheers,

Rodger,

Are you planning on attending this rally? My family and I are registered. I am debating about pulling our Airstream with our '65 Imperial. I hesitate because of the mountains, and the distance on an untested car.

Hola To All

...Here is your chance to see the Rocky's and show off the AS Travel Trailer that you have behind your Imperial.  We have pulled our 1970 Overlander-InterNational Dbl with the 66 Le Baron to such an event.  I can tell ya that just one stops the talking; .. just think if more than one showed up.
