Gasoline prices have literally doubled in the last 2-3
years here.  I don't know what diesel is doing, but
presume similar inflation, which affects costs.  Was
$1.50 and is now about $3.25, so over-the-road costs
have increased significantly.

Shipping in a container across an ocean is a
comparative deal where there are 4+ cars to divide the
cost or where the container can also move via rail or
truck significantly lowers costs.  Also, the container
does not require a personal attendant/driver to get it
across the ocean, where a semi-truck does, so you have
to pay that person in a trucking scenario.
