RE: IML: 2010 Imperial - Maybe NOT Imperial?

Interesting stuff Kenyon,

DCX is definitely getting desperate. Their resurrection of the Maybach phoenix has not paid off very well - rich folks love their Rolls Royces about eight to one. To boot, the Mercedes brand is slowly regaining lost ground after a nasty dip in quality and customer satisfaction in the begining of the decade. So maybe there is hope for a new halo car that doesn't require FHA, VA, or conventional financing.

To me, the new Imperial would come from the 300, or LX platform with the extended wheelbase (300L that's coming out anyway), some styling tweaks to make it look unique, and make it a 4 door convertible, the way the 300's were supposed to come this year, thanks to an ingenious design by ASC.

On another note, thank you for sparing the dignity of Imperial margarine from the hands of over sized wheel wielding philistines.

Blessing or curse?

Allpar reports the following:

If we don't see another Imperial for awhile that might
be OK? Be careful what you ask for.

I had a pair of 20-something drug dealers with crooked
caps with $ signs on top offer me "5 G's" for my 73
Imperial in stopped traffic with a big smile.

They knew what an Imperial is, knew that a new one was
coming, and the beat-up minivan that they were driving
hardly distinguished them as car-lovers, but maybe the
300C was in the shop that day?

That's one end of the current 300 demographic here
near Oakland. Seems that the new Imperial would be an
obvious move for the distinguished pimp on the rise?
The top end of the food chain is suffering along with
Cadillac SUV's at the moment. Alfred Sloan's plan for
stratified brands and aspiration to move upmarket is
apparently alive and well.

Since I'm not certain what Imperial Margarine would
look like on 26" rims, I told them that I'd be happy
to accept their money as a down payment, but that the
car was $20k. They agreed that it was rare and fine
but were short at just that moment so we parted ways
with a wave and a nod of the bling ball-caps.
