Re: IML: 1959 Valve cover decal discussion again

That sounds right. 1961 looked nearly identical to '60 under the hood, color and label-wise. The engine colors changed in '62, and stickers don't seem to appear again until '64. The air filter housing changed shape in '63. If I was detailing the compartment of '62 or '63, I'd be tempted to use the later sticker to dress things up a bit.

I went through this with my 61 when I was going to repaint my valve covers. My car has the oval decals not the black one shown one the web page for 61. If you look at the factory photos for 61 it also shows the oval decals .

I have seen several '59 with a sticker more like the one shown here for
1961. I haven't seen a '61, '62, or '63 with any sticker. That doesn't
mean that they didn't have one, but so far I haven't ever seen one. The
'60 is certainly correct. I think I'll visit Staples and see if they
carry the recommended paper stock for the '60 sticker.

We have the following templates listed:

1960 - had them on all of my 1960s
http://imperialclub.com/Yr/1960/Stickers/index.htm

1961:
http://imperialclub.com/Yr/1961/Stickers/index.htm

1965 (may be other years - refelctive silver backing)
http://imperialclub.com/Yr/1965/Stickers/index.htm

If the "1961" item is determined to be a '59 by
concensus, we'd sure like to know so that we can get
it corrected. I associate the 61 with 61's based on
what I've seen. Don't know enough about '59 to say,
but had thought it was the oval one...

Hi List,
A few years ago I started a thread about valve
cover decals for my 1959 that were gold letters on a
black background. Check out the photo of the engine
and you will see the decals I spoke of that were on
my car. The owners states they are original also and
the car only has 37,000 miles on it. I am believing
more and more that the factory used these decals on
a few of there 59 models and not the round ones that
were used in 57 and 58. I would like to take a poll
of 59 owners to see what kind they have on there
cars. Thanks,
Marty
