This one is so easy to answer - you will probably get deluged. The
First Le Baron regular production coupe was in 1969. As to the reason for this
---????? My guess is that Chrysler was aiming at the owner driver class. This is
a term that refers to a person that would have had a chauffeur - prior to WWII.
After the war - our country, as reflected by automobiles, became more
"egalitarian". So having a driver was considered rather "snooty". Cadillac
cashed in on this subtle,but very real shift in public opinion, by emphasizing
the Fleetwood as an owner / driver. Chrysler was attempting to "mimic" Cadillac
by making the Le Baron one of these. So - the "only 4 door policy"
makes some sense if viewed through this historical perspective. of course,
this is my opinion only.
