Hi Jim,

I echo Steve except that I'd do the manual oil pressure test first, but I would suspect the sender as well. My guess is that sludge has made its way into the sender and is denying a true reading. If you did have basically no oil pressure at idle you would hear lifter noise at the very least.

Replace the sender first. If the pressure still reads low connect a manual gauge and see what the pressure really is. You may find that there are two senders under there... one for the sentry and one for the gauge. You can pull the wire off one at a time to figure out which is which.
