Re: IML: Imperial verus the other luxury cars

The current issue of Hemming's Classic Car (arrived at my home today) compares a 1975 Imperial with a 1976 Cadillac.  It looks like an interesting article, though I have not had a chance to read it yet.

They are both good cars; however, I have a big preference for the Imperial.  Of course.

Jan,

I got the same impression from the 1958 sales literature I have seen. In
fact the notes that came with the 1958 slide show for sales people say quite
clearly not to bash Cadillac too much. Just do a gentle compare and
contrast, making sure to point out that while the Cadillac is a good
product, the Imperial is better in both subtle and substantial ways. But
when it came to the Lincoln, boy, just 'er her rip. Ain't nothing good to
be said about that dog, which, in fact, it was. One of the ugliest looking
cars ever built and almost none of them left, either.

I think the perception was that if buyers were looking past the Cadillac,
for whatever reason, the pitch was to show appreciation for them but to damn
the other alternative.
