Re: IML: what's YOUR car's name?

Hi all..i guess most everyone who goes thru the process of 'naming' their vehicles has some kind of a story to tell regarding just where each of those names came from!... the earliest one i remember was way back in my single-digit years (while there were still Dinosaurs roaming around) and the car was a 50's Nash my partents called "Lady".....though I never found out WHY they gave her that name, the 1950 Suburban we had was called 'Tuffy', for the simple reason that it withstood just about everything that could be thrown at it, or into it while my folks were carting around all kinds of building materials (plus 3 boys).
...Currently I have the honor of owning two 1966 Imperials. A LeBaron and a convertible. The LeBaron, which I bought from Chris Hawkins not all that long ago, I simply named 'Baron'...not very imaginative, I know, but the name does fit the car very well and i get the feeling he is very comfortable with it! Usually cars have female names and mine have been no expection, however, for some reason this just 'fit' the vehicle.
The '66 convertible i bought from Bill Ulman over 2 years back and she still has the name the car came with...Doris...that's as in 'Doris Day' whom Bill said the owner before himself had named the car. The research i did on the history regarding Doris Day (the actress) matches up perfectly with my own opinion of not only THIS car but of all Imperials (agreed, I am a bit prejudiced!). Both Doris day and my own 'Doris' are very classy Ladies!
...Whatever we call our cars (or trucks, or golf-carts for that matter), it all boils down to one thing (in my own Freudian opinion)....we cared enough about the vehicle to give it the courtesy of having its own name. Unlike those owners who consider a car 'just a means of transportation' ...(and there's nothing wrong in that at all!!)... I always felt that any vehicle I owned for several years (at least) and depended upon so much as well as giving me so much pride in simply driving it around, just had to have a 'name' and not be referred to as 'the car'....!
Just my two cents and i am sure others have their own stories about the various named vehicles.....for now, I am perfectly content with my two adopted 'kids', DORIS and BARON!
Thanks a bunch!!!

The best thing would be to attend a Coop show in Vermont , warn him before
hand that TWO great 59 Imps are coming and offer him and his daughter ( she
is part of the show) a ride! We might then get them to the barbecue.
Cheers
Marc B
( my car will be ready only next year however, we must ask Coop to postpone
his tour)
