Re: IML: Aluminum Heads on an Imperial 413/440

Joe, you asked for ideas. The aluminum heads would for all practical purposes,  not be a bolt on and run head. They all typicly have combustion chamber volumes in the 80-90cc range. They use larger valves,ie: 2.18- 1.81, designed for large cams, big carbs, and lots of flow. The valve gear is also usually unique(and costly). Intake and exhaust ports are also much larger, to suit valves. This is good for high rpm hp, but not good for low end torque. It's true there is a benifit by enhanced heat transfer, and the newer EFI engines prove that. Since many run 9-10 compression, and 87-89 fuel, and 200-220 temps. If it wasn't for the electronics, it wouldn't be possible. Ya'll have a nice day, Dave.
