I looked at pre-restoration photos of the autopilot in my '59  
LeBaron. It is a bronze or gold color (but not as vivid as the gold  
air cleaner). In the photo the color is peeling and revealing the  
aluminum color underneath. I've had my Imperial since 1967 so it must  
have been this way when I got it. I don't remember painting it, but I  
suppose I could have. Post restoration it's now just bare metal with  
the red label.
