Re: IML: cast iron welder in SE?

Hola Dave

Your 1959 Crank will bolt into any 440 block and then use either the 413 or 440 rods to the 440 pistons.  The 413 or the 440 heads also bolt onto the 440, and the 1959 intake manifold too ( and keep the original carb and air cleaner housing).

Your 1959 Imperial will accept an 440 this way to be used with your 1959 ( or 1960 or 1961 ) transmission.

Hmmmmmn ... looks just as my 413 with some bolt on 27 more cubes.  Got some added torque to pull my 1959 Imperial.

Hmmm, I think you should replace the block. There are lots of sources
listed on the OIC web site. Imperials with 413's don't have matching
serial numbers, but are designated by year. I am thinking that your car
was a '59. There should be some '59 413's out there, if you care about
the serial number. If not, since you are going through all this
trouble, I would recommend that you buy a rebuilt long block for the
car, or buy another engine and have it rebuilt.

IMHO, repairing cracked blocks is usually a last resort for rare
unobtainable replacements. I don't believe that a 413 is in that
category.

I discovered that my 413 engine block is in fact slightly cracked. The
machine shop missed it during the magna fluxing. I almost put the
engine back together but noticed a hair crack in the water jacket. It
is not in the cylinder and a good welder should be able to fix this. I
am looking for an experienced welder with an oven who will use the low
nickel muggy 77 rod. If any of the members in the southeast know of
someone let me know.
Thanks, David

Your note posted to the entire list, you aren't blocked. No one's
upset. What questions do you have about your Imperial?

Carl, Did my email from the site arrive blank? Have I been blocked, I
am confused about this matter. Not clear how to contact Steve Directly.
I really enjoy this site, but I am surprised to find that no one is
replying to my email questions. Anything you can do to clear this up
would be appreciated. I am new member and just trying to understand how
this works. My apologies if I have upset anyone

Best regards, David Carpenter
