Anther thought for you on this.. 

I recently reconnected my heater in my 67, and I am having the same problem with a faint smoke/ water vapor looking thing goign on on the dash near the window etc. 

Turns out my heater had been disconected years ago for just this reason.. the heater diaphram, or whatever the terminology is for the piece inside the car under the dash, that the fan blows over to give you heat in the winter..  this pice has a small leak.  The heat in the car generates water vapor, or steam, and it has a smell that could be confused with electrical, but is a little closer to radiator fluid.. 

So.... thats my 2 cents.  You may not be burning up, you may just have a leak.
