Thanks to those of you who braved the waters of
"what color are the wheels supposed to be?"!
I learned first-hand the
futility of discussing paint color to closed minds. I will not drag that one out
of the closet again, but I will say that since none of us was at the factories'
exits watching the cars come off the line, NONE of us can pronounce the correct
wheel color. As with everything else in life, we look for tangible evidence (an
original wheel). But skeptics will say that wheel might have been
sandblasted clean and re-painted in a different color. So then, as with
scientists and archaeologists, we look for ALL the evidence we can find and
formulate a theory from that evidence. If 50,000 wheels are found to be
painted silver, that tips the balance pretty far into factory silver, and so on.
But is is just that, a theory. And who do we trust to collect all that evidence
anyway?
Perhaps all future
questions to the Forward Look should be understood to be asking...what do the
MAJORITY of you Mopar owners out there have on your cars? Many (not most) people
with restored cars think their cars are "as from the
factory". Could be an eye-opener for some of them.
We are a stubborn bunch and we will stick to our own
beliefs, despite what anybody says. So rather than trying to shake people's
beliefs, I will just state for the benefit (?) of the guy who asked.....all of
the nine 1959 Mopars I've owned here in the Pacific Northwest have had silver
wheels to match the under-front bumper "gravel shield".
Regardless of what color you choose, be prepared for
"lively" discussion if you put your car in a show,
and hope the judges see it your way! Good luck.
