[FWDLK] desoto 383 engine number

Last month there was a discussion about finding the engine type (361 or 383)
and the engine number stamp on the block.  So I looked at my 1960 DeSoto
Adventurer PS-3, the number stamped on the block just below the distributor
is "E383"  then the next line is simply "9".  It can't be serial number 9,
can it?

Anyone know what's up with my engine number?
