Sounds like fuel starvation.  In a four barrel, the secondaries try to come
on when the throttle goes wide.  Look for blockages in the secondary supply
passages in the carburator.  Also look for restrictions, but not complete
blockages in the fuel pump, supply line, float valve & seat system.  Give
your fuel pump a volume and high speed test.  It should squirt like a cut
artery in your neck (so to speak).
