Re: [FWDLK] [Fwd: por 15]

Charles,

In my converstions with POR sales reps at several swap meets, cleanliness is critical for POR adhesion. Ordinary cleaning solvents such as lacquer thinner leave residues on the metal surface that interfere with the paint bond of POR. Sandblasting is best. POR also sells their own non-residue cleaner. Only POR thinner is recommended.  POR also has some special paints for engines.

I tried POR-15 chassis black (2 coats) on a small cast iron manhole cover in my driveway. Who wants a rust red circle in the middle of fresh black asphalt?  After being driven on, exposure to rain, snow, salt, and sand for 4 years in Minnesota, it shows no signs of rust yet. I also tried it on the fan blade (cleaned by sandblasting) in my Dodge. No problems here either. It is much tougher than ordinary paints and resistant to erosion from bugs and fine dust/sand that passes through the radiator.

Hi John,
Yes, I have tried it on the block and tranny.  I specifically tried it on the
inside of a fresh clean block and on the inside of a fresh clean tranny
case.  Apparently there was some contamination, because none of it stuck on
either pieces.

Just thought I'd let you know.
