Re: [FWDLK] Engine mounts

This may be a little late but the newer mounts will not work with the 55-56
v8 chassis. The mounting tabs on the frame of the 55-56 are horizontal and
the mounting tabs on the newer chassis are at a 45 degree angle.
There are 2 styles of small block mounts for the "muscle car" era MOPARS a
spool mount and a block. The block is a block of rubber about 1 1/2 inch
thick that is bonded in between 2 metal plates. They hav a tendancy to break
(quite frequently in my experience) in high HP applications. Schumacher
Creative industries does make a polyurathene mount that is designed not to
blow out. The spool mount is a barrel shaped rubber insulator held in place
between the upper and lower metal mounting brackets with a horozantal bolt,
this design will not blow out like the block shaped mount. I prefer the
spool mount design.
You should also know that the spool mount for the 360 block has been
discontinued, there are a few NOS floating around but there are not many
left, I have the part numberse if anyone needs them. DO NOT BELIEVE THE NAPA
PARTS BOOKS they list the 318-340-360 as the same part number, it is wrong!
On the 360 block the left side mounting tabs an the block are closer
together and the 318 mount will not bolt on unless you insert a spacer that
is about 3/8 inch thick, not the best if you need a strong mount.

Fortunatly Schumacher just released a polyurathane spool mount setup for the
small block (I have been nagging them for months to get it into production!)

I am in the process of designing a bolt on bracket for my car that will
allow a spool mount set up on a later 318-340-360 to mount to the existing
tabs on a 55-56 v8 chassis. If anyone on the board is interested I would be
happy to arrange to make a set for anyone interested in this type of
conversion.

Please feel free to e-mail me if you need any more info I have been working
on this particular problem for a while.
