[FWDLK] One day at a swap meet in Europe

Dear group,

While at a swap meet in Belgium yesterday, I found several interesting
things but had also a bitter disappointment. First of all, I found a set
(42) of mid to late 50's "Tech" Mopar booklets on various subjects. I knew
them already from having seen them on a regular basis on eBay, but never
suspected they had been translated in french by Chrysler of Belgium ! Quite
a nice finding for under $70 for the whole set.

I then found a pair of NOS Tung-Sol low beam headlights but I did not
bought them because I was not sure if they would fit my car. Can someone
help me on this one ? I wrote down the phone number of the guy, so that I
could get back to him if I want to buy them later. The pair of Tung-Sol low
beam headlights were 12-volts of course, and bore the reference number
6012. The guy is selling the pair for $32.

My disappointment came from a pair of '57 - '58 Plymouth chrome spears I
spotted at a stand for under $45. I've been at several swap meets in
Belgium and France but never found such a specific part for my car. Those
european swap meets are 98% for european cars and 2% for american cars, and
among those 2%, you can be sure it's mainly Ch#v*s and F*rds. Imagine then
my surprise spotting a nice looking pair of chrome spears for a '57 - '58
Plymouth ! The guy did not even know which car it came from. I was not 100%
sure because I did not have my parts book with me but they surely looked
like it. The pair was used but in much nicer condition than mine, because
mine have been badly re-chromed and the chrome peeled off, showing some
pitting on the pot metal. The guy wanted $45 for the pair and after a bit
of negociation, went down to $40 but I wanted to negociate a little more so
I
figured : let's wait a little until it's almost time for them to pack for
departure. After a while, I was tired and wanted to go home so I decided to
go back to the stand for a final deal on them. Well, the first shock was to
discover that they had just been sold. The second shock was when the guy
told me they had been bought by a biker who wanted to put them on his
motorbike ! When I returned home, I checked my parts book, and found it was
the correct pair, allright ...

I'm sure it has happened to a lot of you out there, but it surely was a
first for me ... Those swap meets are fun : )
