Re: [FWDLK] Fwd: THIS REALLY ANGERS ME!!!!!!/Islip Speedway

I'm in my early fifties, and have lived on Long Island most of my life. I started going to the Stock Car races at Freeport Stadium with my dad in the late fifties and also to Islip Speedway. It was really a blast, especially the figure 8 at Islip! I shudder to think, though, about some of the cars that were destroyed. My dad also ran in the drag races at Riverhead, L.I. in a stock '54 Hudson Hornet with Twin-H power. Later on, he bought a used '56 Chrysler 300 B with manual steering and windows (and radio delete!) and ran with that. He still owns the 300, but only drives it occaisionally, no more drags -- he'll be 84 in January!

FWIW, I feel good about notifying the "Imperialists" - group about a 64
IMP 2-dr, in O.A. v.g. condition, (missing only its engine), near here,
was 'slated' to be gutted & "derbied".
Black leather interior, too.

Dunno about its disposition, but @ least I 'tried' to intervene.

Anyone else recall the Wide World of Sports segments, in the early-mid
60's featuring glorified Demo-derbies (30's -40's  "modified" cars), @
the Islep , NY Speedway, featuring a 'flat' figure-8 track, with
crossover- intersection?
