Re: [FWDLK] Transmission Brake

Larry,

I would suspect the hand brake also. When you release the hand brake lever,
does it go all the way down? If not the cable may be stuck. After a long
time in storage, the inside of the brake drum may have swollen with rust.
Then disassembly is required to repair. You need to drop the drive shaft,
and remove a large nut on the tranny output shaft. You will probably need an
impact air wrench for the nut. I highly recommend a shop manual for detailed
instructions.

Subject: [FWDLK] Transmission Brake

I understand that the Forwardlook Mopars (in this case I am talking about a
'57 Coronet, 325 Poly with a Powerflite transmission) have the emergency
brake on the transmission. I think mine is sticking. I replaced the other
brakes with new shoes and they are not wet or sticking, but the car will not
roll on its own and the engine, when engaged, has to rev up until it sort of
"breaks free". If the car is slowly moving, and the Neutral button is
pushed, the car "brakes". The car sat for quite some time and the
"tramsmission E-Brake" is something new for me. What does it look like?
How do I adjust or replace it? Do I need to drop the drive shaft or
anything to get to it? HELP!!! Thanks for your expertise.

LARRY
