Re: [FWDLK] Transmission Brake

Roger, here is what has to be done. Chock a set of wheels front and back to
keep your car from rolling over top of you. Remove the drive shaft from the
rear of the transmission ( it bolts on to the drum ). The nut that holds
the drum on is either 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" they are generally not real tight.
Remove the nut and lay things out as you take them off because behind the
nut will be a washer and the the drum will pull right off. There is an
adjuster on the bottom that may have fallen down onto the drum or some such
thing as that. I have a manual from Dodge on their large trucks and it was
also used on Winnebagos. I used to own a 1971 Winnebago and thus is where I
speak of. This is of the same type. Be aware that the brake shoes are still
available from Dodge but at $95.00 a set. That's just for 2 shoes. I had
mine relined for $35.00. The other parts for the transmission brake are
also available from Dodge. I will email detailed pics to you and to the
chat group as I guess it seems to be a mystery how it is constructed.
