Re: [FWDLK] MOPAR MOTORHEAD NEEDED,,,350,361,383,413 series

Eddee.....
Methinks Mother MoPar made a few glitches in print. eg....the 1959 300E was listed as having 1.74" exhaust valves in the sales brochure, but as far as I know, nobody who has an E has ever found valves that size in an original cyl head, they are all 1.60".
According to a list of "B" engine heads published in the Nov/Dec 1982 Brute Force magazine ( 300 Club Inc),
the first 'B' engine to have 1.74" exhaust valves was the 1963 300J, and some early 300K's.
413's of course.
This list, compiled by John Veatch is in an article called 'Getting your heads together', and gives casting numbers, part numbers, valve specs, combustion chamber volumes, and applications etc, etc.
The '59 specs in this list for the 361/383 'low performance' engine state 1.94" intakes and 1.60" exhausts.
These pertain to heads with cast number 1844705, and p/n 1944798.
Other  '58,'59 350/361/383 engines had the same cast no,1844705, but were p/n 1851887 and used 1.94" and 1.60" valves.
BUT.......John states in his article that '59 HP engines 361/383 and 413 used 2.08" and 1.60" valves. These heads were p/n 1859478 and cast no 1851509.
The 300E had these heads.
Maybe the 305hp Plymouth had them as well.
And, all 413's had 2.08" intakes.
Hope this helps a bit.

If anyone would like the article, it's 4 pages, I could photograph it and send it to you.

Going away for the weekend, but I will do it when I get back Monday.......if anyone would like it.

Subject: MOPAR MOTORHEAD NEEDED,,,350,361,383,413 series

Hello List
I guess I am looking for someone (or someone that knows someone) who has some intimate knowledge of the heads used on thes various 'B' engines!!

MY 1959 PLYMOUTH supplement says DISTINCTLY that the 361 in 1959  (305HP) has heads with intake valves of 2.08" and exhaust valves of 1.74".
( No dispute that in 1958 the 350 COMMANDO had 1.95" intakes and 1.60" exhausts.)

I have a few friends check their ORIGINAL 58 and 59 COMMANDO blocks,,,and a D500 block also,,,,ALL have 1.96" intakes and 1.60 exhausts

In checking the CHRYSLER 300 book it looks like all 413s had atleast the 2.08 intake but some had the 1.60 exhaust valves.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MY POINT:  It doesn't make sense that the 59 GOLDEN COMMANDO 361 had 2.08 intakes and 1.74 exhausts?????
But that is what the supplement says.

HELP!!??
