Chrysler offered a factory-installed undercoating with hood pad
combination..

The 1958 sales code was 501, in 1960-61 the sales code was 588., 1962-65 was
611,  1966-68 was 579 and from 1969-83 it was J55.

I thought undercoating was done at the dealership and not at the factory?
If this is true then the hood pad theory isn't accurate.

Only those 57 and 58's with factory undercoating had hood pads.

I would use Permatex Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive.  And, yes, 57-8 Plys did
have a hood pad.
