Re: [FWDLK] [FDWLK] putting on the primer

Kyle,
I had mine sand blasted over 2 years ago .....and left it in bare metal. I
should have primed it right away because I am now dealing with some flash
rusting and some rot that is reappearing in places.
If you strip it I would ....at the very least .....put it in a good primer
right away.

You want to put the body filler on over the primer. Filler on bare metal
may allow moisture to get in later on.

This is what iam doing with my 56.
Sanding the bare metal with 80 grit. Then treating it wih a rust converter
called Picklex 20. This stuff neutrailzes any rust that may be on the
panel. I will then scuff the Pickles with a scotch brite pad and prime with
epoxy primer (you cant use etching primer with the metal treatment) but you
can skip the picklex and use an etchibng primer.
I am using a paint called Zero-Rust which is a friendlier alternative to
POR-15, which a lot of people use. (In the back of the fenders, and anywhere
that had bad rust problems before (bottom of trunk lid, and channeld where
weatherstrip goes, cowel area, inside rear quarters, inside doors etc) . I
will then use epoxy primer over the Zero Rust

Good luck,
Scott

My car needs to be stripped and sanded to the metal, what I was wondering is
if I should put a full coat of primer while it's still bare metal, or if it
was OK to use filler on bare metal, or if I should do it a panel at a time.
What is the best way to do this? I still have a lot to do before I get to
that point, and a lot to learn, but I want to be ready when it's time.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Kyle
