Re: [FWDLK] FW: [FWDLK] WIW-1962 Imperial Crown

OKAY OKAY!!  I get it, the motor is not a 426.  Like I said, I didn't verify what it was.  This car also has rust around the rear window.  I'm thinking the car may be too far gone.  I am not afraid of fixing bodywork, but if the car isn't worth much when it is done, I will pass.

No one has said what a #3 project car is worth yet!!  This would be easy if it was a 57-59 Plymouth, I know about those!

Keep it coming guys...

Hi Brian,

It the engine is a 426 Wedge, then it?s not original.  Your car, correctly called an Imperial Crown*, came with a 6.8-liter 413 motor.  A total of 1,010 Crown 2-door Southamptons were made for 1962.  Verify that it is a Crown and not a Custom.  The first four digits of the VIN should be 9223, not 9123.

Unfortunately, despite their low numbers, Imperials are not as valued as other Chrysler makes (Plymouth, Dodge De Soto, or Chrysler).  A Crown 2-dr Southampton in very good condition still struggles to get $7,500.  Convertibles are usually under $12,500.  Parts are rare and can be costly when located.

*Crown Imperials were the Ghia-built limousine.  None were built for 1962.

I found a 1962 Crown Imperial two door hardtop today.  They owner says the car is a 426 wedge, but I didn't pull the numbers on it.  It is air conditioned, the floors are fairly solid, the interior trim is pretty well pitted.  The rear half of the lower quarters and the doglegs on both front fenders are rotted out.  Most of the trim is there.  The interior cloth is all shot.  He said to make an offer.  I was thinking no more than $1500, but I don't have a clue as to the value.  What does a project car 62 Crown Imp run?  Sorry I don't have a picture...
