Owning a rare FL car that is modified (as it would be in the '60s,it was
built by an old drag racer who had built 8 '58 Furys though out the years) I can
say that the average person at a show doesn't really care if it's modified or
not, so in a people's choice show the more eye appealing (usually the modified
car) will win, as for points judging obviously stockers will always win out. My
opinion is if a car wasn't owned by a car enthusiast and was just transportation
to it's prior owners it would have a better chance of being left stock. In 1958
if someone bought a car that was really into cars I would think that after
taking delivery the J.C. Whitney or Almquist catalogs would come out and presto
a Day 2 car as Neil calls them is born.
Either way if the car is being cared for or if the
owner is enjoying it I appreciate them both, I really don't like points judging
because I'm not into the my car is better than yours crap, I actually get a kick
out of it when my '58 beats a stock Fury in it's class, or several (Carlisle is
the only place it's ever been in a show with other Furys) and I hear that people
get upset, if you like your car who cares if it wins a plastic trophy or plaque?
Enjoy it, drive it, burn up the tires and some gas, they're more fun to drive
than to collect trophys.
