Re: [FWDLK] Fins and Irene

I was actually in the "voluntary evacuation" zone, in atlantic co. NJ... just 5 miles east of me was a mandatory evac, and all of cape may county was evacuated.  amazingly, the christian school tried to do the nice thing and send buses into atlantic city to bus out the homeless, crackheads, and other scum of the city, 24 hrs after the mandatory evac.... to no surprise, a group of them got out of the gymnasium, broke into and beat a senior citizen, robbed him of money and jewelry, then moved a little down the road to a pony ride place, tied the 81yr old woman to a chair, beat her and stole her car, just to go rob the local general store, they claim they were caught... if not, they're wandering the wrong woods.  just proves there is no such thing as stereotypes, just people living up to their ways... the sad part is i had to lock my windows that night... the frt windows on the porch were never locked since i put the picture window in 2 yrs ago.  i had a loaded .357, a .22 long, and a 12ga waiting to do society a favor....

i had the windows boarded up on the garage, all cars packed it tight, with 2 friends gettin a "last minute in" i managed to squeeze 29 cars in the garage with room for all the lawn furniture... i was glad that when the storm had passed, there were simply leaves on the ground... didnt look like as much as a typical thunderstorm!

on a lighter note, i'm sure glad i'm where i am now, i hear my old house in north jersey went under 7-8' of water from the 15' over crested passaic river... one john mentioned...  during floyd, we got close to 3' in the street... nothing had made it into the garage though that time for me...

Hello All

I live in the Ramapo Mountains in Oakland, NJ about 35 miles northwest of New York City.  We had about 10-11 inches of rain and 45 to 50 miles per hour winds.  Parts of the town and surrounding counties got hit really bad with flooding.  The Ramapo River, which runs through Oakland, crested about 7-8 feet above flood level.  Luckily we live about a mile and a half uphill from the river.  Other rivers in the surrounding counties crest up to 15 feet above flood level.  The amount of rain that fell was really unbelievable.  No trees down and we had power throughout the storm.  Though I had 15 gallons of gas and a generator ready just in case.  My daughter on the other side of town lost power for about 36 hours.  My other daughter, about 3 blocks away, was fine.  So all in all, we made out OK.  But some of the other people in town are still trying to dry out.

Hi John & all,

I live in Branford Connecticut near the shore and we lost power for a few days and some large trees fell in the yard but the house and DeSoto are OK. Thanks for asking. Right on the shore some homes and roads washed away and the state will not have 100% power back for another week. Some roads are still blocked by trees and powerlines but they are doing there best to clear them. The last big hurricane was in the 1985 so we have been lucky.Connecticut is a beautiful state but we get bad weather now and again. Hope all others are safe in Forwardlook land.

Rich

Hi all,
I was just thinking of all of the people affected by Irene.   Hope is all well with you and yours.   And, I hope if you were in the stormy and flooded areas, you were able to save your irreplaceable items.
Anyone hear from those along the coast affected by Irene?
A tornado ripped through a 7 mile path a couple of miles NE of our place...that was one wicked looking storm as we were surrounded by storms but actually were in a sunny gap within the storms.
Almost no rain or wind here, but total destruction of many barns, homes and other buildings.
Anyhow, hope all is well with you all, your families and of course your finsters!

John in WI...will be hot and humid here today...looking forward to fall and calmer weather and cooler temps
