Re: [FWDLK] Needed: 57 Dual Point Distributor Vacuum Advance

Do what I do, and just walk into any auto parts store and tell them you need a part for
your DeSoto.  You will swear you just shot them with a Stupid Gun ….  if you get any
response at all, it will be some minor scratching at the surface about "having heard of
those”, but all function of parts searching will stop right there !

I think you are on the right track in finding latter-day interchange numbers.  Don’t even
mention what it fits outside the Forward Look crowd !

  Good luck on your search.

Hi, Dave.

A careful reading of the 55-58 Mopar Parts Manual says that a 1957 D500 uses the following dual-point distributor:
1642392 (aka Autolite IBK-4301A)

Examination of my distributor label shows it to be exactly this distributor.
The part number for the vacuum advance (called a "vacuum chamber" in the parts manual) is 1439671.
I would very much like to learn the aftermarket replacement numbers for this vacuum advance.

Thanks for your help with that.

Daniel,

There are multiple distributor P/Ns used in 57 Dodge D500s. If you send me the AutoLite P/N on the distributor label, I can tell you which advance unit is correct and several of the aftermarket numbers.

The best place to find these is eBay.

If you are interested in rebuilding, lubricating, or modifying your distributor for performance, review my web page at:

We went through the ignition system on my D500 CRL and discovered the distributor vacuum advance unit is inop.
I need to find a replacement. Apparently, it’s different than the one used on the single-point distributors.

Where can I find one? I believe the correct Mopar p/n is 1439671. I have no idea what the aftermarket versions were numbered.
