i don’t know about that . Right way is be sure you have true tdc mark on damper ( use a piston stop from each direction in #1 ), middle is tdc  then attach damper tape ( hot heads ) glue with weatherstrip adhesive , set timing to factory setting . Timing by ear etc can blow a hole in piston . be sure weights and springs are free . 
Dampers are known to slip on our cars ...
