Re: {Chrysler 300} 1961 Chrysler 300G BatWagon

Hi,

Gerry Olsen and I were close friends. I had the car in my garage and did some accelerator linkage work on it. My mechanic in Reading PA did some fine tuning to fix some drivability issues and the new owner had the same mechanic do some additional things to it. If I remember right, the new owner wanted the car to bring his children or grandchildren for ice cream.

Gerry used to sing Johnny Cash’s song “One piece at a time” a tongue in cheek salute to the various donor parts.

It had the proper ‘63-‘64 headers and short rams.

If the new owner wants to contact me, I will be happy to share what I know about the “Batwagon.” That’s what he called it.

Wow - I always wondered where this car ended up! Curious how you learned of it as I didn’t see it at the Pasadena meet.

Years ago I spoke to the fellow who built the car but I don’t remember his name but I’m sure someone in the club knows. He had sold it some time earlier and it was for sale at that time for $69k or so (I think it was in Hemmings.) if I recall correctly, the fellow that built it had some strong feelings about some of the grief he got from some purists.

It’s a beautiful car and I think it was done really well, including the 440 with short rams, the 727 trans and 300M seats et al (although I would have put 15x7 wheels with G caps on it instead of the later Imperial “snowflake” wheels which it looks like it still has.)

If the car sold for $32.25k , the new owner got one smoking hot deal.

Someone at the 300 meet in Pasadena told me they knew who built this wagon. The current owner would like to talk to them and get some information about it.
