RE: Coolant leak

Put studs in the four outside or end holes. Bolts strip easily and tend to
leak as you found out. I would put some sealant on each stud also if you
choose to install them! I hope you did not but if you did strip the hole,
use heavy grease packed around the bit and the tap, drilling & taping the
hole. Drill slow and tap slow and the grease should capture the shavings.
After drilling & taping run water through rinsing the residual shavings out
of the hole if you leave the heads on. The best way to drill & tap the heads
for a heli coil, is off the engine. That way you know their are no shavings
flowing around in the cooling system. Just my suggestion.

Subject: coolant leak

Tonight I worked on some of the bugs that showed up after getting the
Engine in yesterday. One of the problems was a couple of coolant leaks
>From the exhaust header bolts. I was using bolts that were 1 1/2" long.
On a couple of the holes they bottomed out before getting tight. So I
Got some shorter bolts and started with the last one on the back of the
Left head which had been leaking. I found out that there are only @
1/2" or so of good threads as the shorter one would "strip out" when you
Started to get them tight. So I went back to the longer bolt which seems
Not to be too long in this case. I slathered it up good with thread
Sealant and crossed my fingers. If this continues to leak what are my
Options, heli coil or???? And if it needs a heli coil can that be done
With the head on the motor, or does it need to come off?
