Re: In tank fuel pump (WAS: Re: My Car's New Trick)

Good points Nick...I will think on that one; although I do have some “ideas” for our externally mounted pumps and lines but will have to do my R&D and calcs first.

Gary,

Not too much science needed there. We drive cruisers that have full exhaust tailpipes, where most car experts mount the pump is pretty close to the exhaust, warmer than in the tank. We cruise and park on asphalt parking lots for what they call hot summer nights, warmer than in the tank. Inside the tank is a pretty cool place, more so if your tank is undercoated as so many were. My though was only a reliable way for a fuel delivery system to keep positive pressure to the carb after heat soak. Like Bill M., I want my engine to restart within that hour after shutting it off. A couple of hours after some burgers & fries, lots of trash talk my engine will always start.Cool

Thank you Nick for reference to the article on installing and “in tank” fuel pump.
Does anyone have quantifiable information on the difference in fuel temps between an in-tank pump and the external electric pump?  I may do some research on my own and if I find anything worthy I will let the group know.

My thoughts on advantages of the fuel pump in the tank is to overcome some of the problems caused by new fuels. Access to our tanks is nothing more than one strap holding it in place. Here is some thought to start with.
