Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | My 300F was sold new at Roy Burnett Motors, Inc. in Portland Oregon. In order to research the dealer I signed up for an account for the Oregonian Archives. I have about 100 lookups left on my account. If you know the dealer that sold your car, I could do the lookups and send the PDF results. Nick.

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | My car was sold new at Billingsley Motors in Portland, yes! This is all the info I have about the dealership: the Chrysler Historical record showing it was shipped to Portland from LA, and sold new there. Interestingly (or not) the car was in Jacksonville, Florida when I found it and now resides in Texas. It's been all over the map. Thanks.

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | That's a very late build car. Here's an ad from September 12, 1957 when they're already clearing out the 1957s. A funny read. (billingsley01.jpg) Attachments ---------------- billingsley01.jpg (278KB - 143 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Looks like they were one of the original Plymouth dealers in the country when Plymouth started. The building on Hawthorne is still there. I found a 1922 ad where they were selling GMC trucks a block away. (billingsley02.jpg) Attachments ---------------- billingsley02.jpg (336KB - 144 downloads)

Otherwise you could check the library for that city to see if they have archives scanned in or on microfiche.

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | More info on Billingsley. It appears that they switched to Pontiac in 1935. But in 1955 GM took their franchise away. It was front page news on December 1, 1955. They bought out a Packard dealership and appear to have switched back to Plymouth soon after. Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Here's the last post for Billingsley. It looks like they changed their name to Billingsley Motors in July 1960. They had an ad in April 1962 for their going out of business sale. They were still selling Executive cars so they may have still been an official dealer. The last ad I could find for them was in August 1962 where they are selling a 1961 Imperial executive car. Then the last item I could find was an article from 1966 about the state removing old business signs and they mention Billingsley Motors. Here is a link to the PDF files I downloaded where these items came from. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BxCSRHQc5k3-WnNVX2xHemRlQ28&... Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Well, this is just amazing. NicksGarage - 2016-06-08 10:41 PM That's a very late build car. Here's an ad from September 12, 1957 when they're already clearing out the 1957s. A funny read. This ^^ ad was posted about three weeks after my car was shipped. I would guess that my Suburban was one of the "67 Other '57 Plymouths at Sale Prices" being referred to. Nick, thank you very much for taking a look. I'll buy a round of drinks next time I'm in southern California. Cheers! Edited by 57burb 2016-06-09 11:00 AM

Maybe it was shipped there first and then transferred to the selling dealer?

Interesting that your car got redirected. I wonder if that's what happened to the '57 Suburban above. I like how the window sticker has the model names in the background. I wonder if the 1960 one looks similar.

Veteran Posts: 117 Location: Kättilstorp Sweden | Thanks for trying. I was in touch with the first "private" owner of the car and he told me he bougth the car at "Alexanders Desoto/Plymouth Dealerships" used car located on Portlands East Sandy Boulevard. The car had prior to end up at Alexanders it has been a demonstrator car and had belonged to the local Sheriffs auxiliary and have had a sirene mounted just ahead of the radiator. Magnus

Veteran Posts: 117 Location: Kättilstorp Sweden | Thanks for the info Nick. The first private owner bougt the car from Alexanders in early January 1961, it has 29.000miles on the ODO and he paid 2.100 dollars for it. When delivered to Hart Brothers it was probably a "Drive away" car and went as a demonstrator car before landing at Alexanders owners wife who used the car until it was sold to the man who was the "first" private owner. Extreme Veteran Posts: 480 Location: The Great Northwest | The frame has one of the two clips still on it to hold the plate to the frame. Seems like someone could reproduce these out of spring steel if there was a significant demand - which there isn't.
