Re: IML: electrics

I had this happen with my 69 about a year ago & it turned out to be the fusible link went bad. It was about 105 degrees out & I had the A/C running. When I stopped at a red light, the ammeter went way to discharge. The car stalled & EVERYTHING was dead. After I had it towed home, I ran a jumper wire from the battery to the starter relay & it started right up. I then discovered that the fusible link wire was hanging by about 3 strands & green corrosion on it.
I've also had what you describe happen with dirty battery terminals. removing the terminals from the battery & cleaning & retighten solved that. I would start with the battery terminals first.

This happened to me as well with my ?63 Crown.  The battery was shot.  Replace it with a new one (don?t waste your time with charging it- it probably has a dead short internally).

Hy fellow Imperialists

Today I tried to start my 68 Imp. after a few years sitting in the garage.

When I connected the battery the dashboard and interior lights came on normally, but when I tried to start the engine I heard a noise and ALL electrics went down, now there is absolutely no current to anything, can anybody direct me to the shortest way to correct this problem, never before I have come across to something like this.

Appreciating your assistance and comments

Regards

Joachim from hot Melbourne, Australia
