Re: IML: 62 Imperial - Oil Pan Question

I had the pan off my '60 years ago. I can remember that lots of stuff had to be moved around. I could be wrong, but as I recall, the engine did not need to be lifted. Removal, cleaning, and installation was a one day job. Of course, back then I was a LOT younger and more focused. The procedure should be clearly stepped out in the FSM.

I have also done this on '55 and '56, where the only thing needing to be undone was the steering linkage at the frame. When finished, I simply bolted the steering linkage back to the frame and I was on my way. Also a one day job. I only did the last one ten years ago, and much easier than the later models.

I am not sure about the Y pipe, the cars I worked on had dual exhaust. For what its worth, I hope it helps.

Subject: IML: 62 Imperial - Oil Pan Question

Hi to All: I'll be Soon Doing Some Work in My 62 Southampton. Replacing the Heads With 452's (Hard Valve Seats & Milled .030 to Boost the Comp. a Little), Adding a .430 Lift Cam, New Timing Chain, & Fix a Little Oil Leak Up Front in the Engine. I Want to Drop the Oil Pan, Clean It and the Pick-Up Tube. Here's the Question: Can the Pan Be Taken Off By Removing the Tie Rods, Center Link, Ect, Cutting the Exhaust Pipe After the Y- Joint, Removing It From the Exhaust Manifolds, Pulling Off the Trans Lines, Loosening Up the Motor Mounts and Raising Up the Front Of the Engine? Looking at It It's Too Close To Call. Has Anyone Done This?
Thanks:
