....Well guys and gals, this makes it more of a challenge, huh? There is
more to a car than just low miles. Which poses a question, I see more and
more ads with "original miles" that are really low. ie, 60,000 on a 1957
car is 1,428 average miles per year. Unless it was put on blocks as a late
model car 35 years ago, this low mileage sure seems highly unlikely. More
likely 160, 000, which is still only 3,800 average for a '57.
I'd like to hear stories from list people about your car's mileage. What
sort of verification do you ask for on these supposed low mileage specials?
My story on my three current old cars: The '42 was bought from the estate
of the original owner, he parked it in the barn in 1966 when he got too old
to drive. 52K miles. Still has one original headlight because the old
farmer didn't drive at night. The '66 was bought from the original owner in
'87 with 98K, documented. The '55 was bought from the second owner, he
bought it in the early '60's and put it up in the mid-'70's with 71K. So
the '66, by far the best in very fine original condition, averaged 8,909
miles per year, the '42 avg. 2,167, the '55 avg. 2,816.
