Re: IML: Oil usage theories

Thanks again for all the ideas, places to look, things to consider.

Here's the plan - a good cleaning of the block, new oil pan gasket, new valve cover gaskets, a thorough check for leaks again, use 20W50, and I'll report back on how things came out.

Although I am not an engine expert, with worn valve seals you will have blue smoke at acceleration and engine braking (what happens if you suddenly release the accelerator at high speed?).

I guess you car is equipped with a PCV system you might check it, maybe the valve is stuck. You can clean it with solvent then.

Good luck,

Robert

P.S.: Don't forget: even when our Imperials where new, it was not unusual for them to use some oil :)
