Correction: Those first 2 part numbers that you mention 1823-656 and
1823-658 are not for Torque-Flite at all, but are for manual
transmissions.
1823-656 : Standard Transmission-w/o overdrive, P30, P31, Sub., P31
Fury, 57 only.
1823-658 : Standard Transmission-w/o overdrive, (Also specify 1 of 1634-452
Flange) except Sub., and Fury. 57 only.
The correct transmission part number for 57 Fury is:
1823-682 : Automatic 3 speed Transmission, LP2 Fury, LD3, S25, S26,
LS1, LS2, LS3, C70, C73, C75, LC1, LC2, 8 Cylinder, 57 only. Note 3: P31,
S25, S26, C70, C73, C75 specify 1 of 1736-342 tube and 2 of 137-422 elbow.
On P31 Fury (57), S26 Adventurer, also specify 1 of 1823-708 weight and
1 of 1823-709 spring.)
1823-740 is not in my 55 - 58 DPCD Parts book.

The manual said: "when replacing prod trans. with service transmission
(1823 682 for Fury), parts shown below are also required : 1 - 1823708
