Re: [FWDLK] ETHANOL DAMAGE TO GASOLINE ENGINES

there are 2 sender styles used with cork floats, 1 with brass- that i've seen so far..[for car tanks].. just another one of the many variables on our cars, like the radios, windshields trim variations, styles of 57 fenders, other trim, etc... just depends what plant used what vendor at the time....  i cant attest to each and every of 60+ fwdlk mopars i've had in the past 12 yrs or so, but right now an LP2L wagon and detroit 57 wagon both have cork, my LP2L commando car has the cork, of the 4 mint tanks i have removed and set aside, only 1 had a brass float- those were all 30k and under 4dr sedans i parted/converted- 2 were LP2E's, other 2 were 57s i didnt care to note origin of..... my 59 NY'er has a cork float, 2 59 dodges have brass... dont know what my 57 and 58 desotos have as they havent given issue yet... i know all the early stuff i had [56 chrysler, plymouths, 54 dodges, desotos, and plymouths, 41 plymouth] all have/had cork...

i think we already identified the problem ron- its the 10% ethanol fuel and dirty politics!

Ron/all.
Mine has a brass float in the fuel tank. When I took apart Michelle’s fuel tank to repair the sender, it had exactly the same brass float. It had a hole in it and I managed to get one quite easily from a supplier on the net. I thought they were all brass…?
I agree with Ron that rather than trying to run away from this problem gas, to come up with solutions is more productive.

We should identify the REAL problems that the new fuels cause for our cars and come up with SOLUTIONS so that we can keep our cars on the road and trouble free. For example, I would replace all the rubber hoses on a vintage ride with ethanol-resistant ones. For the problem that Jim mentions concerning the cork tank floats, can we seal the cork with something like POR15 ? Worth investigating.
